This week in Annandale 22/02/2016

The Good:

Moffat & District Community Council were able to address some of their teething problems around accuracy of minutes since the new community council started.

Policy & Resources Committee – Old Moffat Academy decision went the way of a sale but I emphasised the importance of appropriate conditions being attached that would protect the community interest over concerns that the building would be developed to the benefit of the town

Johnstone Community Council – still raising concerns about the safety of the B7076 and will be welcoming the appropriate council officer to a future meeting. RES attended to speak about community benefits and operational impacts on the Minnygap windfarm development.

Transport Scotland have assured me they will address the damage to the A701 bridge over the Evan Water

The Bad:

Dickson Street, School Lane and Mansfield Place have been reported for attention as the state of the roads are causing injury and concern to vulnerable pedestrians.

Lockerbie Community Council was held at same time as Moffat Community Council again – apologies were submitted.

Caravans in a state of disrepair near Beattock. This was reported and the issue has been raised with the private landowner by council officers.

The Necessary:

Employment & Appeals Sub Committee – can’t really discuss this but elected members have a duty to provide this function.

Planning Applications Committee – quasi-judicial decision making at its best. Good to see sense prevail over the Gym in Thornhill.

Annandale & Eskdale Area Committee – disappointing turn out for what was an enthralling meeting with officers, going through reports line-by-line-by-line. Brilliant. Biscuits were supplied however.
